media treats white criminals (including murderers) better than it treats black victims

HuffPo |  On the afternoon of Aug. 9, a police officer fatally shot an unarmed, black teenager, Michael Brown, in Ferguson, Missouri. Details remain in dispute. Eyewitnesses have said that Brown was compliant with police and was shot while he had his hands up. Police maintain that the 18-year-old had assaulted an officer and was reaching for the officer's gun. One thing clear, however, is that Brown's death follows a disturbingly common trend of black men being killed, often while unarmed and at the hands of police officers, security guards and vigilantes.

After news of Brown's death broke, media-watchers carefully followed the narratives that news outlets began crafting about the teenager and the incident that claimed his life. Wary of the controversy surrounding the media's depiction of Trayvon Martin -- the Florida teen killed in a high-profile case that led to the acquittal of neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman -- people on Twitter wondered, "If they gunned me down, which picture would they use?" Using the hashtag #IfTheyGunnedMeDown, users posted side-by-side photos, demonstrating the power that news outlets wield in portraying victims based on images they select.

On Monday, Twitter user LordSWVP tweeted out a photo driving home another point: Media treatment of black victims is often harsher than it is of whites suspected of crimes, including murder.

News reports often headline claims from police or other officials that appear unsympathetic or dismissive of black victims. Other times, the headlines seem to suggest that black victims are to blame for their own deaths, engaging in what critics sometimes allege is a form of character assassination. When contrasted with media portrayal of white suspects and accused murderers, the differences are more striking. News outlets often choose to run headlines that exhibit an air of disbelief at an alleged white killer's supposed actions. Sometimes, they appear to go out of their way to boost the suspect's character, carrying quotes from relatives or acquaintances that often paint even alleged murderers in a positive light.

THE MEDIA IS CORRUPT.
WHY ARE YOU BUYING INTO THIS "MEDIA DRIVEN NOTION" THAT THERE IS A MORE SERIOUS THREAT TO BLACK MALES BY THE POLICE - THAN THE ONE CREATED BY THE THEFT OF BLACK COMMUNITY GOVERNANCE VIA SUCH FILIBUSTERS WHICH ALLOW TOO MANY OF THE "WOULD BE PILLARS OF OUR COMMUNITY" WHO ARE ALLOWED TO BECOME OUR PRIMARY TERRORIZERS?

Next question.

Please afford me the opportunity to more plainly state your supposition and then I'll answer.

INTRINSIC upon your supposition is the notion that the PRIMARY and SUPERIOR agent of "Protection" for said community is THE POLICE, an agent of the government.

Even though this 1/1000th portion of this same community, the "Ebola Street Pirates" also is a PRODUCT of this same community - you infer that it is the obligation of the GOVERNMENT AGENTS (the Police), to form a "non-dysfunctional relationship" with the 999/1000ths of the community as a condition of the eradication of the "Ebola Virus".

If we take the above paragraph that speaks of OBLIGATIONS - how do you label an "Al Sharpton" for example - who POSITIONS himself as "The Protector Of The Community" but is materially ONLY in place to FIGHT THE POLICE, throwing incendiary bombs if necessary to gather a maximum sized congregation.

With this MEME that you have evolved to accept that "The Government" and their "Police" are OFFICIAL, while "Mr Sharpton" - a (supposed) "Man Of The Cloth", A "media operative in TV, Radio, Print syndication and the web - IS NOT "OFFICIAL" so we can't place any such expectations upon HIM - OR MORE IMPORTANTLY - expect some COOLER HEADS within the rank and file to SEE THROUGH HIS FRAUD and ISOLATE his access to the "COMMUNITY CONSCIOUSNESS VALUABLES" - lest the masses be molested.

I am working on a diagram that compares:
* THE POLICE = PROTECT AND SERVE
VS
* THE BLACK WOMAN = PROTECT AND RESPECT

It seems to me, sir, that the "Newly Integrated" Black Person in America has many unresolved CONSTRUCTS that he must reconcile between two time periods:

* The time period in which "A Black man had no rights that a White man or the Government need respect

* Today's time period in which THE GOVERNMENT runs imperialist attacks upon "Nations Of Color" YET the Negro reserves the right to NOT GET OFFENDED about GLOBAL IMPERIALISM as commanded by the popular "US Military Police Chief" who they TRUST, instead keeping the congregation focused on the "Domestic Police Chief"

WHO TOLD YOU THAT THE POLICE ARE THERE TO "PROTECT AND SERVE" THE BLACK COMMUNITY?
WHAT FORCE is emasculating BLACK MEN from these same communities from running the DEVELOPMENT OPERATIONS from which a state of PROTECTION will be derived?

Oh Fuck! Help me out Feed. Did my "Oswald Bates" reference inadvertently trigger all of the above? http://youtu.be/9ROOi5xagxg

Clearly me and the In Living Color character are in a different plane of thought than you.

While he is a comedic figure to entertain the masses on a highly rated show with a diverse audience, when i laid down a material challenge to your supposition and then transformed the uniformed oppressor as fought in Ferguson to the uniformed (and logoed aerial drones) in a nation of color which the Americanized Blacks opted to NOT extend their vicarious living through to the defence of this foreign population of color - it was you who chose to classify me into the loony bin, knowing that others who are reading would be entertained, rather than noting your evasion.

If you accept paypal, I'd be happy to authorize payment to your account if you would be so kind as to wrap me up a little care package of that Georgia wax you be schmiggidy schmoking before you lay out one of your hypergraphic and utterly bewildering comments or posts.

While I'm sure these rants are great folk art, somehow or another akin to the what the mayor of blacktown.net has been up to lo these many years, absent the active compound coursing through my system, your screeds have become so multilayered that they're damn near indecipherable - or as you put it - on a different plane of thought than me.

Dale:

When it comes to your community do you detect the same type of "conscious outsourcing" among the people toward the agents of the government via its "law enforcement channel"?

I notice around metro-Atlanta the various recent "municipal incorporation" efforts, driving by the desire to optimize the focus of the "tax revenues" and "governing priorities" came with the assumption of SELF-DETERMINATION, with the unspoken notion that "The Police Will PROTECT AND SERVE us" being subordinate to "self-determination" foundation.

Perhaps this direct question to you will allow you to lift yourself off of the floor.

Sometimes people are really onto something. But when I can't pin it down, all I can do in the end is grunt at it.

Wow Naive Tom:

If I was a member of "Dream Defenders" who expanded the protests from Ferguson into a national "Struggle Motion" against "White Supremacy" manifested as "Police Brutality" - I would say that your attempt to include CNu into this "WE Cavemen" reference using your chimpanzee reference is subtle racism.

Aren't you glad that I am intellectually evolved enough to not put you in the "nuts" for dramatic effect?

You see - one benefit of knowing why "MAN" was created - allows me to stand above any faux offendedness of being referred to as a "human with stunted evolutionary growth" akin to that of a primate.

Yeah, now that you point that out I do appreciate the symmetry and beauty of your created mental being, CF.

FWIW, nobody would be a happier believer than me, if I could get there. I took Paul as my confirmation name, under the misapprehension that Saul changed his name to Paul when he saw the light. Hasn't happened to date; on the other hand I've never gone back and put Saul on the paper.

I fell asleep every time I saw the movie. Somebody told me the Slab is an alien teaching tool that's showing the cave men how to use tools.

You two don't have library cards?

The monoliths are artificially intelligent systems devised by the first born to subserve their interstellar "farming in the field of stars" project. The monoliths cause evolution. In the case of the hominids, they provoke tool use, or as Dawkins disciple Blackmoore would say, "temes".

Naive Tom said...

Wait, hold on a minute. There was no backpedaling when I said CF was the Monolith and the rest of us were the ape-men. That was the story all along. Otherwise the comment makes no sense.

Well, of course. It goes without saying! You've seen how long the words he uses are. And how he uses lots and lots of them to make what would seem to be a simple point. CLEARLY the point is NOT SIMPLE. I'm obviously incapable of digesting the full meaning.
