up to the task? 'bout to find out...

FayObserver.com | The 82nd Airborne, and more specifically its 3rd Brigade Combat Team, are no strangers to Iraq.

Since 2003, parts of the brigade have deployed in support of U.S. efforts there on at least three occasions.

Now, more than three years after the U.S. military presence in Iraq was thought over, about a quarter of the Panther Brigade will return with a new mission to help train Iraqi forces to fight the Islamic State.

About 1,000 paratroopers from the brigade will deploy this week as part of the Operation Inherent Resolve mission.

The deployment was officially announced in December and is expected to last nine months.
As his paratroopers prepared for the mission, the brigade commander, Col. Curtis A. Buzzard, has watched tensions boil in the Middle East - and Iraq in particular - as forces have fought against the Islamic State group, also known by the acronym DAESH based on the group's Arabic name, ad-Dawlah al-Islamiyah fi al-Iraq wash-Sham.

"We've seen the impact of DAESH over the last year and a half, not just on Iraq, but on the region," Buzzard said. "It's clearly an existential threat.

Language and the use of language is the ground level of society.

Our selves(personae) are largely generated by our interaction with others.

Political correctness demands that we make room for every performative persona marginalized in its interaction with others.

Isn't your bottom line on this topic a strenuous objection to being reprimanded (and worse) for expressing misgivings and/or disdain for this or that performative persona? Particularly, those you know from direct experience and observation to be specifically and thoroughly dysfunctional?

We don’t like to think that our society is nature, because we created it. rotflmbao...,

Because we created it is the part that always tickles me. It created it, and we started talking about and taking credit for what It had done..., What my man J-Money try to tell you cats this morning: Language and the use of language is the ground level of society.

Which is precisely why we tend to aggregate into large cities and conduct our affairs in a fashion strikingly analogous to the haplo-diploidy insects, right? Or have you, like Big Don, permitted an ideological bias to cloud the very basic observation of how your species has tended to organize itself?

That was a real LOL here at work :-)

Conversational fragments…conversations between fragments…fragments coming into my me as conversations… identity transparency is the indispensable precursor for anything calling itself "empathy culture". "performative personae" i.e., identity politics taken to ridiculous extremes - are the very antithesis of this requirement.

Broken machines reprimanding fully functioning machines is priceless...,

He has some answer to that I'm sure. All reviewed by his peers.

BD is glad y'all picked up on the secondary message here. BD hasn't enough years left for it to matter, but y'all better start learning Arabic. BD, you're trying to frighten the Roman Empire by telling them that a bunch of Girl Scouts with slingshots are coming for them.

I know you live that terror daily, that's what led you to pay Dick Cheney and Donny Rumsfeld for 1000 Brooklyn Bridges, with our money. But even now, you still can't grasp that it was a con?

I always thought empathy was about putting yourself in others' shoes. This is more like a perpetual self pity circle jerk. There's no plan for progress. It's just constant crying about some ism or some microaggression. With all this crying, nobody's learning how to fight. They're on their way to having everything taken from them and it looks like they aren't interested in dislodging their heads.

Plus, I think I've mentioned, I'm white myself, and the constant talk about how evil we all are kinda got me down. I know about Columbus, and that was bad shit, but I can't do it hour after hour. Like C said this week. It is what it is, what are you going to do about it now.

People still pissed off at Columbus, or Attila the Hun, yeah, right on brother, but it's not actionable.

Yeah, exactly. Ex-actly. I got involved with a bunch of folks who were into "antiracism" a few years back. I was pissed off about the Jena Six thing. (I got in fights in high school, nobody prosecuted me for attempted murder.) Anyway some of us got together and did a little campaign. Which went well, got almost half a million signatures on a petition to the DoJ. That seemed worthwhile.

They were good folks, but we never got another campaign together. Everybody just went back to pissing their energy away on constant bickering with teh hated White Feminists and White Liberal Mens and whatnot. Which, those groups were really annoying, no argument on that. But all the blogwars were incredibly draining emotionally, and for nothing. NOTHING. Just pissing away our time. I gave up.

One of the rules of these Privilege People was you're not supposed to try to put yourself in someone else's shoes. I forget why not. Their rules were contradictory and seemed almost designed to be impossible to follow.

Right! We had a good team. We did something. How often does that happen? And then it just got thrown away. Bickering with boneheads was more important.

And, also, like in most experiences where there's a damn job to do, our own ethnic differences within the team didn't cause problems. We had access to different networks, and we used that. Wtf?

I don't sincerely enjoy people enough to spend any kind of time skinning and grinning, and that's where people have gussied themselves up to present their very best performative aspects in a friendly social milieu. If I'm going to sincerely spend any kind of time with these humans, it HAS to be in the context of doing quite specific concrete things in which I have a genuine interest. In that context I'm looking for the peak interaction of creatively gelled meetings that yield up a "whole greater than the sum of its parts" experience and lead to tangible results on a definite time frame. I used to call that clocking niggaHz.

Any of the shit you've described above is just drama on the part of attention-starved failures. Phuk them. If I MUST endure the emanations of an attention starved human, it's damn well only going to be a young child who's acting out because he/she lacks the skills to more articulately communicate what's on their mind and in their feelings. That pathetic and utterly feminized sob-circle that is the anti-racist or other venomous untermensch collective, I derisively referred to that as counting nigger hurts. That shit doesn't even rise to the level of useful conversation....,

CNu said...

One of the upshots of that whole protracted episode is that many of its participants should now have common social networks. The question that goes begging here is how many genuine and enduring friendships did you forge from this exercise such that it yielded permanent cross-pollination of your respective social networks? How many of you at least intermittently church together, break bread together, attend one another's celebrations, etc..., If the answer to most of that is nada, then all of what was going on was a specious and superficial waste, even in the context of otherwise fruitless and superficial social interactions that routinely take place in all our lives.

Naive Tom said...

Yeah. I kept up with a couple people for a couple years, but we're out of touch now.

Naive Tom said...

Well, some of us got ensnared by that stuff more than others. The problem is it becomes a non-returnable serve. People feel like they're going to be ostracized if they don't talk the talk.
