cleveland | Timothy Loehmann, the Cleveland police officer who fatally shot
12-year-old Tamir Rice in November, previously failed the written test
to become a deputy with Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department, according
to records released on Wednesday.
In September 2013, Loehmann scored a 46 percent on the department's
written cognitive exam, administered by Cuyahoga Community College and
given to potential recruits. Seventy percent is considered a passing
score. Recruits are tested on problem-solving, vocabulary, grammar,
punctuation and spelling.
Other records show Loehmann did pass the department's physical exam,
which requires applicants to perform at least 27 pushups in a minute and
run a mile and a half in less than 16 minutes and 36 seconds, among
other tasks.
Northeast Ohio Media Group reported on Tuesday
that Loehmann had been rejected for a deputy sheriff job that he had
applied for in September 2013. The county released Loehmann's job
application and exam scores in response to a public records request.

Loehmann was among 35 applicants who passed the physical exam but failed the written test, the records show.
Loehmann previously also was unsuccessful in getting jobs with police
departments in Akron, Euclid and Parma Heights. He had been looking for
a police job since he resigned from the Independence police department
in November 2012 following a poor performance review. He had worked there for five months.

When you look at the footage of the shooting - the majority of the fault should be placed upon the DRIVER of the police car.
Instead of creating adequate distance between the "suspect who was armed" and the patrol car - by driving to the pavilion via the parking lot - they drove upon the grass - placing Officer Loehmann directly into the "threat zone" as he opened the door and had to make a split second decision.
Had the police cruiser been parked as a distance - the two officers could have
* Gotten out of their car
* Issued verbal commands to the "suspect"
* Noted that he was just a "little kid"
* Adjusted their interactions with him commensurate to this surveillance information gathered at a distance.
Just to ask - Brother CNu - assuming that the events just prior to the fatal shooting were exactly the same - WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST LOEHMANN should have done differently to which you would have said "He overcame his mental deficiencies and handed the situation according to the text book"?
um..., I'ma go with immediately after getting fired from the Independence PD, he should have cued up with the mexican handy men and leaf blowers at Home Depot to obtain legitimate day work for which he may have been cognitively qualified with a little patient guidance from the mexican cats...,

C'mon, *ALL* countries were basically founded that way, e.g., Gauls, Goths,Vikiings, Mongols, etc. Only difference is IQ-160's from Western Europe did a better job of it, founding Modern America - creating a country the rest of the world is intensely trying to get into, legally or otherwise....
Fundamental Rule: If you can't defend it, you ain't got it. Don't lose sight of that....
