what will bishops and cardinals do without fear and hatred to move the crowd?

HuffPo |  America's Catholic bishops came together Monday to project an image of unity, after a Vatican meeting on the family unleashed an uproar over the direction of the church.

Last month's gathering in Rome on more compassionately ministering to families featured open debate — alarming many traditional Catholics, who argued it would undermine public understanding of church teaching. Pope Francis encouraged a free exchange of ideas at the assembly, or synod, in contrast to previous years, when such events were tightly scripted.

At a meeting Monday in Baltimore, Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, signaled there was no conflict between a gentler approach and upholding church orthodoxy. Kurtz cited his home visits to parishioners, where he wouldn't give them "a list of rules to follow firsthand," but would instead "spend time with them trying to appreciate the good that I saw in their hearts," before inviting them to follow Christ.

"Such an approach isn't in opposition to church teachings. It's an affirmation of them," said Kurtz, who attended the Vatican gathering.

Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington, who also participated in the Vatican gathering, emphasized that last month's meeting was only the start of a discussion before a larger gathering on the family next year, where bishops will more concretely advise the pope on developing any new church practices. New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan said the divisiveness he read in media accounts did not reflect the collegial discussion inside the event.

"It was a synod of consensus," Dolan said. The pope, he said, has a God-given gift "for attentive listening."

The bishops made the remarks at their fourth national meeting since Francis was elected. While many Catholics have praised Francis' new emphasis on mercy over the culture wars, many theological conservatives have said Francis is failing to carry out his duty as defender of the faith. Some U.S. bishops have resisted turning their focus away from gay marriage, abortion and other contentious social issues to take up Francis' focus on the poor, immigrants and those who feel unwelcome in the church.

You are having much too much fun with the COGIC convention my friend. Not lacking for neofascist homosexuals, "sissies", or pedophiles - the Roman Catholic Church is all tapped out for "musical homosexuals and sissies" to literally "move its crowd". http://youtu.be/6qqEClV_K4s

CNu..CNu..!! .. You are forgetting the whole idea. It's all a Racket to extract cash from the Sheeple. At least N-1 of them are flawed. What you didn't see was the dudes running around with buckets collecting The_Offering after that musical "liturgy" got the crowd all worked up. Big deal like that one, you might have even had to go through Ticketmaster to get in....

lol, even a broken clock is right twice a day! BD, just imagine how much more your statement would mean coming from someone who did not derive his own livelihood and pension from the paragon of fear and hatred driven human livestock management - the U.S. military industrial congressional complex - one of whose "high holy days" - is being observed nationally/federally today!

At least I have a choice of whether or not to participate in the COGIC convention. Let me try and withhold an income tax payment earmarked for the unspeakable and....., well.....,

...Give that cat on percussion a full 10.0 points for awesome showmanship....

For awhile we had some sort of N-1 small "church" up the road that was basically folding chairs in a defunct supermarket. But they held amped-up services Sunday mornings with a terrific rock band. They left the doors open so folk$ wandering by could spectate and po$$ibly be $uckered in for the $ervice. BD did 'observe' from outside a few times (the hot band really cooked big-tiime).

One evening, the 'Pastor' (or whatever his title) came around the neighborhood knocking on doors trying to recruit us unwashed sinners to expand his "congregation.". We asked him how that less-than-sacred music squared with the sanctity of his mission ?? He replied something to the effect that it "was necessary to reach the flock...(ROTFL)"

Some folks are upset because there are no actors of color in the featured roles. That omission is fine with me. If someone is going to fabricate a story, then let the fabrication be complete.

lol, first thing out of my mouth when I saw that Cecil B. DeMille looking preview. That said, I don't think anything even remotely resembling authentic esoteric Christian culture is known to the mainstream anymore, notwithstanding all the professions of christianity.

"What will Bishops do without fear and hatred to move the crowd?"

It looks like Pope Francis is moving pretty close to the main stream regeneration/transformation view of Evangelicals. To shortly and Biblically answer your question, I believe he would answer the your question with "Mercy".

I think it will still be looked upon as fear and hatred outside the church when its stated God's mercy is available for your current disobedience and behavior. The Pope is putting his faith in the workings of the Holy Spirit and God's work on the one who believes in Him instead of the church's enforcement.

While the pope's intentions seem Christic for all intents and purposes, the question is what will American Catholic clerics do to keep the cathadraxis flowing from the pockets of ugly Americans into the coffers of their respective diocesan fiefdoms? The Holy Spirit is incapable of lifting the ugly off the denizens of Babylon.

So true. Many of them repeat the Nicene Creed or Apostles Creed every Sunday, without any knowledge of what happened in 325 CE.
