channel4 | A document issued by the Islamic State of Iraq and
al-Sham (Isis), sets out their hardline rules for the residents of
Nineveh - the ancient name for the province around the city of Mosul,
which the group seized earlier this week.
Former members of the security services and Iraqi army
are assured that if they repent, they will be accepted and says special
places for repentance have already been established. However, it warns
that those who do not repent will die.
Promising Muslims they will be treated well unless they
are spies for the enemy or criminals, the document requires citizens to
pray five times a day. It also outlaws drugs, alcohol and cigarettes,
and warns that gatherings, flags and bearing arms is now forbidden.
Women are told they must dress in an Islamic way: modestly and fully
covered. They must also remain at home except in emergencies.
The extremists justify their acquisition of money
previously belonging to the government, saying their leaders will spend
it as they see fit.
The document also celebrates the release of "our" prisoners from government prisons in the region.

I think I would avoid a "special place of repentance" like mutant airborne Ebola.
This is 2006 coming home to roost. I wonder if Tehran will save al-Maliki's bacon, er uh, whatever.

I am betting most think the 20/20 hindsight is leaving a force behind would have given Iraqis more time to organize themselves to defend something like this. It wasn't wise to remove the troops when we did, however, a good portion of that decision was Iraqis wanting us out and making demands that would put our troops in a bad situation. As for the surge, it was considered successful, it's why Obama thought he could just do it in Afghanistan and get the same results.
I wish some reporter would dig deeper and ask Bush why he did a surge in Iraq, but decided against one in Afghanistan. Anyway, for the Obama administration, they did expect Iraq to be one of their bright spots to point to for a great achievement.

You swallowed that, huh?. Surge didn't work. Was US troops restraining al-Malicki, and bribing Sunni insurgents. Best to modify your data now, seeing as that info available back then.
Hi, many folks, as yourself, get emotional in their comments.
Lol. I'm assuming by "emotional" you means laughs himself silly? I'm also thinking that you shouldn't take intolerance of stupid as anger.
Paying Insurgents Not to Fight. Petraeus' Iraq Style Bribes Won't Work in Afghanistan http://www.dailypaul.com/139212/paying-insurgents-not-to-fight-petraeus-iraq-style-bribes-wont-work-in-afghanistan
Creeping Fuzzlim Sharia -- wouldn't be surprised if there was an embryonic ISIS chapter operating underground in Dearborn as we speak....
