Clearly, Baldwin needs a 24-hour on-call scriptwriter. And Mamet, damn, he has just become one giant stopped-up butthole. You can see his deterioration over the years.

As a  salesman, who sells something far more ephemeral than real estate, I have to say that I both loathe and love this scene. I regularly tell my employees, both older than my parents, that second place is a set of steak knives.  And to this day, I'm not entirely sure if they are weak, or I am an asshole. Man's game, bitch.

Life is hard. And the 45-65 year-old's of my nation didn't do me any fucking favors.

hmmm...., it appears that the 99% were co-opted into doing this hard system of governance a tremendous favor when the fed bailed out the big banks http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg21228354.500-revealed--the-capitalist-network-that-runs-the-world.html#bx283545B1 and handed the bill for the bailout to the taxpayer.

I wonder how things are going in the cuba of the north http://subrealism.blogspot.com/search?q=iceland

And what is it about that scene you loathe?

Sales IS the epitome of the psychopathology of American Capitalism. Salesmen capitalize on weaknesses due to human cognitive errors to dishonorably extract consumer's creative value (their hard-earned money). Bosses capitalize on salesmen by using same manipulative techniques on employees to extract most of their time and creativity. Sales bosses do absolutely nothing creative and yet extract most of the productive value of consumers and their employees.

What's the difference between "getting the girl" and "closing the sale"?

Once you realize that you have a flair for "getting the girl" isn't it both creative and rewarding to do it over, and over, and over again?

What kind of pansy pinko alternative reality are you pushing for where men don't ruthlessly exploit the "other's" relative psychological vulnerability? http://halloftheblackdragon.com/reel/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/save-a-ho.jpg

Lol, CNu is clowning on me :-D

What's the difference between "getting the girl" and "closing the sale"?
The differences are primarily that "getting the girl(s)" results in direct productive value (e.g., social cohesion, gene-meme- tic [gemetic?] propagation), and, although it is a significant source of the dopaminergic mechanism behind most human cognitive failures it need not be manipulative/coercive to extract, but rather 'massaged', given as a gift, to maximize shared value. I see it like a dance between two equal participants who may have some conflicting goals but equally give and gain from participating.

Once you realize that you have a flair for "getting the girl" isn't it
both creative and rewarding to do it over, and over, and over again?

It is! And, it has productive value! But, I know what you're getting on about, and extracting that value from as many women as possible is only one sense of maximization, and a shallow and parasitical maximization at that. The extraction and transfer of value from one (or more) life to another drains overall value while cooperative creation increases overall value. This is the core understanding and power of alchemy.

What kind of pansy pinko alternative reality are you pushing for where
men don't ruthlessly exploit the "other's" relative psychological
vulnerability?

And you get to the meat of the matter! The reality I see is where people ruthlessly eliminate their personal cognitive failures in order to maximize their own personal values. If done with the participants of each value creation activity rather than to the other participants, you get exponential creation of value rather than singular accumulation and putrefaction. Clearly this seems to be a form of communism as you so adeptly state. However, the equality is not assumed, but deserved as it is based on all participants eliminating their personal cognitive failures. Communism is a result, but not a goal - very much like a community that forms around an open source project.

(I now have an image in my mind with my right leg raised as if  on an imaginary rock, my chin up, looking in the distance... lol)

Well, it's not just the bailout of the banks themselves but the incredible spectacle of retaining and even massively rewarding the failed managers and incompetent traders who destroyed the banks financially.  And to add whipped cream & a cherry on top, bailing out bank shareholders.    In FDIC type intervention, you sihtcan the punks who crashed the car and you zero out the common stock.  I.e., intervention is strictly limited to saving the rest of the credit fabric, but you at least swap out the bad components.   FDIC system is no model of anti-corruption, but it's at least not a positive incentive to blow up institutions.  Which current Fed practice obviously is.  (Not even just our institutions, but institutions all over the freaking world.)

So ok what I'm saying is probably no news to anybody here, but the divide/rule dilemma is constantly "rescue banks and had a trillion to the crooks who destroyed them" vs "let banks crash completely and replay great depression."  Which anybody presenting it that way is beyond criminal.

wtf? I ain't say nothing about you have to keep her. I said "getting the girl" as in "stick and move"..., or as DD say I'm not entirely sure if they are weak, or I am an asshole. Man's game, bitch. Life is hard.

The extraction and transfer of value from one (or more) life to another
drains overall value

Does it? Or does it bestow the Darwin award for survival and thrival of the fittest?

while cooperative creation increases overall value.
This is the core understanding and power of alchemy.

cooperative creation and play is cooperative creation and play, not quite following how that's alchemy? there's an exceedingly thin line between withholding information in a parental/initiatory way, and withholding information in a shamanic exploitative way. matter fact, once you know the specific information being withheld, it's arguable that they're interchangeable.

The reality I see is where people ruthlessly eliminate their personal
cognitive failures in order to maximize their own personal values. If
done with the participants of each value creation activity rather than to the other participants, you get exponential creation of value rather than singular accumulation and putrefaction.

everything that lives must eat.

them what's got, shall get, them what's not, shall lose - so the bible says - and it still is news....,

the equality is not assumed, but deserved as it is based on all participants eliminating their personal cognitive failures.

deserved?

why do you suppose alchemical texts are occulted?

why not simply spell things out, in plain and simple english that everybody can understand?

Communism is a result, but not a goal - very much like a community that forms around an open source project.

but isn't the bare minimum price of admission to the open source project the knowledge, skill, and ability to contribute to the same?

I'm curious, how does one discriminate between marks, suckers, tricks, johns, and hoes - and the deserving?

How does one become a captain and avoid becoming captain save-a-ho?

Sorry, been at kids' birthday parties all day. Talk about liminal perspectives!

Dale, why do you impart (negative) morality to sales?  I see sales itself, as inherently amoral. Surely you are not against consciously influencing the decisions of other people? Or consciously influencing yourself?

MLK, Gandhi, Steve Jobs --and of course Hitler, David Duke, Bill Gates :).  Whether I'm selling crack or a fitness regime, myself as a social success, a palatable worldview and coping strategy, or really killer solar panels, the goal is always to influence the behavior or worldview of others.

I enjoy this site so much because it is so effective at worldview modulation, at least on me.

The 99%? Um, North America has 5% of the world population, and half of those in poverty here are children. Large chunk of the rest are women. Most of the poor are young, or very old. I'd say the demographic I described is comfortably 1% for this era, completely ignoring the all-time score which moves them up dramatically.

Who's not a salesman? I'm going with....nobody. Some of us are just better at it than others. I like to think being conscious of this helps you moderate your otherwise completely primal, killerape behavior. I certainly think the driving force in my own life is moderating my own inner demon. I'm fucking horrified of that guy. I like to think fucking everything I want to and making as much money as there is would be relatively simple. But faithful monogamy, charity, humility and (somewhat) moderated worldy desires and status symbols are a much much harder trick to pull off. At least for me it seems like the greater goal to strive for.

I see the "lesser lights," trying as hard as they can to get what I find effortless, and somewhat worthless, not to mention destructive. But I don't fear falling too far, I fear climbing too high.

Killer Apes indeed.
