thedaily | The people of Detroit are taking no prisoners.
Justifiable homicide in the city shot up 79 percent in 2011 from the previous year, as citizens in the long-suffering city armed themselves and took matters into their own hands. The local rate of self-defense killings now stands 2,200 percent above the national average. Residents, unable to rely on a dwindling police force to keep them safe, are fighting back against the criminal scourge on their own. And they’re offering no apologies.
“We got to have a little Old West up here in Detroit. That’s what it’s gonna take,” Detroit resident Julia Brown told The Daily.
The last time Brown, 73, called the Detroit police, they didn’t show up until the next day. So she applied for a permit to carry a handgun and says she’s prepared to use it against the young thugs who have taken over her neighborhood, burglarizing entire blocks, opening fire at will and terrorizing the elderly with impunity.
“I don’t intend to be one of their victims,” said Brown, who has lived in Detroit since the late 1950s. “I’m planning on taking one out.”
How it got this bad in Detroit has become a point of national discussion. Violent crime settled into the city’s bones decades ago, but recently, as the numbers of police officers have plummeted and police response times have remained distressingly high, citizens have taken to dealing with things themselves.
In this city of about 700,000 people, the number of cops has steadily fallen, from about 5,000 a decade ago to fewer than 3,000 today. Detroit homicides — the second-highest per capita in the country last year, according to the FBI — rose by 10 percent in 2011 to 344 people.
On a bleak day in January, a group of funeral directors wearied by the violence drove a motorcade of hearses through the city streets in protest.
Average police response time for priority calls in the city, according to the latest data available, is 24 minutes. In comparable cities across the country, it is well under 10 minutes.
Citizens like Brown feel they have been left with little choice but to take the law into their own hands.

This has nothing to do with conservatism http://www.legendsofamerica.com/we-vigilantelist.html and is what first provoked my break with limp-wristed "progressives" who were mortified at my suggestion that men organize to patrol and tame the neighborhoods in which their loved ones are being terrorized. "No, there needs to be more and more effective and community-oriented policing!!!!" Tax payers in community A without all the squabbles and beef, need to be paying for "more and more effective policing" in community B which functions like the wild-wild west sans cowboys, indians, horses, etc...,
Tradition = conservative imho; in many effective solutions, returning to what ancestors did and tweak it for present consciousness. We were deny years ago in Brooklyn, yet, not the Hasidic, but we should be clear of why. Why it was hard in good old Kansas beats me, might of have been this factor

First, it would help to know the difference between Kansas and Missouri.
I don't have appreciable crime in my neighborhood, precisely because we all chip in to underwrite the cost of security patrols, we have block captains and neighborhood watch, and most of us are armed to the teeth. Thus far this year, there have been 3 window smash and grabs, we circulated locations and perpetrator descriptions over the weekend and everybody is now on the lookout - and - that's the totality in a neighborhood comprised of 900+ homes.
Oh, and I live on the unhealthy Missouri (Kansas City) side of this.
On the Kansas side, right across State Line from me, things are locked down even tighter. The Hasidim had it/have it right. Only a coward would allow his loved ones to be put upon by crime and criminality. I put on the vigilante spurs when I was 16 years old and have never looked back once since that time.
Who will "police" a collapsed mess like this? http://www.dreamandhustle.com/ground-floor-analysis-of-the-atlanta-%E2%80%9Cpittsburgh%E2%80%9D-area-featured-in-that-anti-gay-beatdown-video/
"I am not surprised to see that the “Civil Rights Pharisees”, unable to find a gun to protest against – instead chose to go into the store and tell the owner that they are “gunning” to shut him down because THE STORE is a center of violence." We forced the Police to man the Section 8 block, so another stupid kids is not shoot in the foot and told to get the fuck out for their madness. There are many ways to solve a problem from my experience. Not our problem in Bed-Sty, the community may share a pistol, or some get shoot in the foot, and ,the Dominican are armed, we don't wait for institutional wing-bags and then get anger at them LOL You can't get them to talk about this to their children going into college, please Doc. http://www.livescience.com/18451-today-humans-ready-love-tomorrow-robots.html
