BBC Two | Smoking babies, naked festivals, cargo cults, cow-mud slinging and serpent-handling, are just a few religious rituals explored in a new eight-part series for BBC Two, Around The World In 80 Faiths.

The series follows Anglican vicar Peter Owen Jones (last seen in BBC Two's Extreme Pilgrim) on a year long journey across six continents in a quest to explore and understand 80 very different expressions of humankind's fascination with the divine.

Braving deserts, mountains and jungles, his travels take him from Voodoo Masses in West Africa to Taoism in the mountains of China, from spiritualism in the Bible belt to Islam in Syria, and from Shamen in Lapland to a polygamous sect in America.

The big six world religions (Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism and Sikhism) are only part of the story. The enormous range of beliefs in the world is expressed in a rich diversity of rituals, in big and small religions, in denominations, in sects and in cults, in tribal faiths and in new religious movements.
